    Notes:

    In response to an uprising led by Sir William Wallace in 1297, Edward I‟s cam paign of 1298 went as far
    north as Perth, and then went down the west coast, through Lanark, Ayr, Galloway, and back into England.
    Fulk le Strange (1267-1324), the would-be 1st Lord Strange of Blackmere (1309), was summoned from Sussex
    to meet the king at York on Pentecost, 1298/5/25, and from there to join an expedition to Scotland.9 The Battle
    of Falkirk (1298/7/22) occasioned the first significant use of the longbow. When he next departed for Scotland
    on 1299/11/16, Fulk received a waiver on debts due the king until Easter next, and letters of protection valid
    until Michaelmas next.
    Johan Lestraunge, or John le Strange V ( circa 1252-1309), 1st Lord Strange of Knockin, was summoned
    to join Edward I at Carlisle, Cumberland, in 1298 for the Battle of Falkirk,12 and again in 1299. The muster in
    1299 was rescheduled and did not actually occur until the Eve of Saint John the Baptist, 1300/6/24.13 Fulk le
    Strange received orders from the Justice of Chester for the same muster on 1300/4/14.14

  1. 8.  John of Hunstanton LeStrange, III (son of John of Hunstanton LeStrange, II and Amicia); died Abt 1269.

    Notes:

    JOHN LESTRANGE (d. c. 1269 ) witnessed the treaty between Dafydd ap Gruffydd (q.v.) and Henry III in May 1240 , was appointed in March 1241 to try Dafydd , and in Jan. 1245 was a commissioner to make peace with him. HAWISE , daughter of this John Lestrange , m. Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn (q.v.) . In the years 1244-5 John Lestrangewrote to Henry III telling of Gruffydd 's support for the English cause; he aided the prince of Powys against Llywelyn in 1257 , and ROGER LESTRANGE (d. 1311 ), son of John, guarded the castle of Dolforwyn for Gruffydd , in whose support he wrote to Edward I claiming lands between the Rhiw and the Luggy . Hawise (above), Gruffydd 's wife, was a leader in the plot for the rebellion of Dafydd against Llywelyn in 1274 . Roger Lestrange was a justice at Rhuddlan in 1278 , controlled the lands of English Maelor andMechain in this year, and commanded some of the English forces against the Welsh at the end of the 13th cent. ; it was his troops who met Llywelyn at Builth in Dec. 1282 . Numerous other members of this family from Shropshire were active in the wars with the Welsh .
