    Notes:

    His farm is almost on the same location of the McDonald Cemetery now.
    Cash & Clark had schoolhouse at thier farm. Only teacher remembered was Prof. John T. Roberts, father of Cash Roberts (at writing of manuscriot living at the Bates Home).
    Schoolhouse also served as church house. Later was moved to the AG Dick Arnold farm (see notes under Jarrell Deam McD).
    Shot in the back by Chief Bigfoot by an arrow, which was not removed right away. A few years later it had to be cut out, by Dr. Gordon of Ganisville, in order to save his life.

    Cash married Mariah Louise Green 1865, Montague County, Texas. Mariah (daughter of James H. Green and Susan H. Coleiron) was born 15 Oct 1845, Laurel, KY; died 9 Jul 1934, Montague County, TX. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    1850 census has McDaniel as last name.
    Joined wagon train leaving [Lawrence County] Missouri in 1850’s going to Texas. Went by way of the “Texas Road” an Indian Trail. It crossed the Canadian River at Gaines Creek, going south to a place called Geary’s, then Boggy Depot then south to Colbert and across Red RIver at Colberts Ferry a few miles north of Denison, Texas. Coberts Ferry was operated by Benjamin Franklin Colbert a Chickasaw Indian, and run across the river by slaves.
    Wagon stopped in Grayson County, Texas;
    then went on to Montague County in 1857. Two hills in Bowie: Queen’s Peak & Brushy Mound. They chose Queen’s Peak. Beads & arrowheads can still be found at Brushy Mound.
    They lived on the Denton Creek on the east side for 2 years.
    First school on Denton Creek in 1860 in a private home later known as Dace McDOnald home.
    A little later a 2 room log cabin built on Cash’s farm used for school & church.
    1859 moved from Denton Creek to Queen’s Peak. First called Victoria’s Peak.
    1860 opened up the General Merchandise store (rock building across from present courthouse) at Montague, the county seat. THis is where Mary was born.
    THen moved to Whitesboro, Texas 1872, to work in the Genreal Merchandise & Pool Hall with THomas Wade (son-in-law).
    Murdered in robbery in San Antonio April 1889.
    By 1880 he and family had acquired 960 acres of land known as the William Carlton & Patrick Curling Surveys.

    Told story of his 3 fox hounds circling a black panther.
    In 1859 Indian wars were so bad, they moved into the Fort or Stockade at Queens Peak with the McDonalds.
    Also shot in knee with arrow and never removed.
