                Edmond5 Jones,  son of Sugar4 and Sarah (Franklin) Jones, was born circa 1749 and died in 1834. He married circa 1770, Rachel Alston. She died before 1834. Miss Alston, born 27 September 1747 in Warren County, was the daughter of Solomon2 and Ann (Hinton) Alston, and the granddaughter of Mr. John1 and Mary (Clark) Alston of Cowan County, North Carolina, earlier of Surry County, Virginia and still earlier of Felmersham, co. Bedford, England. Mrs. Mary (Clark) Alston was the daughter of John Clark.[1]
                Solomon2 Alston left a will dated 4 September 1780, probated in January 1785. In the document, Mr. Alston mentioned his daughter, (1) Rachel Alston who married Edmond5 Jones of this line. In addition, he names his sons (2) James Alston, born 1754, died 1805, married first Sarah Kearney, daughter of Edmond and Sarah (Brothers) Kearney, he married second, 27 September 1804, Sarah (Macon) Hawkins, her first husband was John Hawkins, son of Philemon and Delia Hawkins, whom she married 22 February 1765, she died 11 April 1808; and (3) Solomon Alston, Jr., died before 25 July 1771, married Sarah Hinton, she later married John Henderson on 4 June 1772, son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Williams) Henderson and brother of Nathaniel Henderson who was the second husband of Sarah (Franklin) Jones, wife of Sugar4 Jones.
                
                Solomon Alston, Jr., left a will dated 25 July 1771, proved August 1771, Granville County Court. The other children were (4) William Alston, (5) Philip Alston, and (6) John Alston; daughters (7) Martha Alston, wife of Isaac Hunter; (8) Ann Alston, wife of Jesse Hunter; (9) Mary Alston, wife of a Mr. Kimbrough; (10) Charity Alston, born 19 January 1743, died circa 1787, married 12 August 1761, James Jones, born circa 1730, died circa September 1777, son of Edward3 and Abigail (Sugar) Jones, she married second in 1778, a Major Pollard; and daughter (11) Sarah Alston, married a Morgan.
                In addition, Mr. Alston also named grandsons: Solomon Hunter, son of Isaac Hunter; James Alston Hunter; Jacob Hunter; John McCoy Alston, son of my son Philip Alston; to granddaughter Priscilla Jones, the daughter of James Jones; grandson Alston Jones, son of my daughter Rachel Jones; and grandson Lemuel James Alston, son of my deceased son Solomon Alston. Mr. Alston requested that “my loving sons James Alston, William Alston & my son in law Jesse Hunter” act as executors. The document was dated the “4th day of Sept. A.D. 1780,” and witnessed by William Myrick, Francis Myrick, and Thomas MacLen.
                  In the codicil, dated 18 April 1784, Mr. Alston mentioned his grandson John Alston, son of James Alston, who is not yet eighteen years of age. The above grandson Mr. Lemuel James Alston served as a United States congressman and jurist in the area of Greenville, South Carolina. His mother was Sarah Alston who later married John Henderson.
                 Lemuel James Alston later settled in the Alabama Territory in Clarke County in 1816. He withdrew from public life circa 1821, and died 1836 at the age of seventy-six in the area of what would become Grove Hill in Clarke County, Alabama. He was born circa 1760 in Granville County, now Warren County, North Carolina. Mr. Alston, who served in the Revolutionary War, was the father of eight children, six sons and two daughters. Only one, a son William Williams Alston, survived Mr. Alston. He died in 1859. Mr. Lemuel Alston was supposedly married twice; each wife named Elizabeth Williams, and the second Elizabeth Williams was supposedly the mother of his children. The second Elizabeth Williams was the widow of his first wife’s half brother, Joseph Williams.[2]
                On 30 January 1786, Lemuel Alston and his sister Charity petitioned the Court concerning the estate of their father, Solomon Alston, Jr. who left a will dated 25 July 1771 and proved at the August court in 1771. The records states:
    Lemuel Alston and his sister Charity, now Charity Sutherland, wife of Ransome Sutherland, and children of Solomon Alston, Jr. and his wife Sarah, who is now Sarah Henderson, wife of John Henderson, since Solomon Alston, Jr. died and a division of estate made Nov, 23, 1778; in division Sarah Alston received ¼th part of the Negroes for her lifetime and then the negroes to go to her children Charity and Lemuel Alston. We do herein covenant that we, either of us, who survive, will separate the negroes and give to the descendants of the other his or her ½th part of the ¼ th part, left their mother for her lifetime of said negroes. This is to assure the division of Negroes made to descendants of both Charity Alston Sutherland and to her brother Lemuel Alston at death of their mother. Wits: John Major

                Mr. John1 Alston was baptized 5 December 1673, the son of Johna and Anne (Wallis) Alston, grandson of Johnb and Dorothy (Temple) Alston, and the great grandson of Mr. Thomasc and Frances (Bloomfield) Alston of Gedding Hall, Polstead, co. Suffold, England. The parents of Mrs. Dorothy (Temple) Alston were Sir John and Dorothy (Lee) Temple of co. Bucks, England. The children of John1 and Mary Alston were (1) Joseph John Alston, born circa 1702, or perhaps 1712, died 1781, married, his first wife, Elizabeth Chancey; (2) Mary Alston, married first Henry Guston, married second William Seward; (3) Solomon2 Alston, of this line, born circa 1707, died 1784, married Ann Nancy Hinton; (4) Sarah Alston, born circa 1709, married a Thomas or Phillip Kearney; (5) Elizabeth Alston, born circa 1711, married a Samuel or William Williams; (6) William Alston, born 1714, died circa 1743; (7) Charity Alston, born circa 1718, married first Robert Hilliard, married second John Dawson; (8) Philip Alston, born circa 1723, died 20 November 1783, married Winnifred Whitmell, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Hunter (Bryan) Whitmell, died 1795; (9) James Alston, died 1761, married a Chancy, first name probably Christian; and (10) Martha Alston, married Lemuel Wilson. Mr. John1 Alston left a will dated 20 February 1755, which was probated in Chowan County, North Carolina.
                The Alston line extends to King John of England. The line from Elizabeth Alston (Jones) Deming, wife of FISHER 6 DEMING, to King John, is:

John, Lackland, son Henry II, King of England, and Eleanor of Aquitaine, who placed his seal on the Magna Charta in 1215, King of England, crowned 27 May 1199; born 24 December 1166 or 1167, Oxford; died 19 October 1216, Nottingham; married as his second wife on 24 August 1200, Isabella of Angouleme, daughter of Aymer Devalence and Alice DeCourtenay; born in 1188; died 15 or 16 November 1246.
      2. Henry III, King of England, crowned 29 October 1216; born 1 October 1207, Winchester; died 15 or 16 November 1272, Winchester; married 14 January 1236 or 1237, Eleanor of Provence, daughter of Raymond IV Berenger and Beatrice of Savoy; born 1217; died 24 or 25 January 1291, Amesbury.
      3. Edward I, King of England, crowned 19 August 1274; born 17 June 1239, Westminster; died 7 July 1307, near Carlisle; married first in October 1254, Eleanor of Castile, daughter of Fernando III, the Saint and Joan DeDammartin; died 28 November 1290, Grantham. He married second, 8 September 1299, Margarite/ Marguerite, daughter of Philip III, King of France.
      4. Joan Plantagenet, daughter of Edward I and Eleanor of Castile; born 1272 in Acre, Westminster Abbey, Sir Gilbert DeClare, Ninth Earl of Clare, Seventh Earl of Hertford and Third Earl of Gloucester, knighted 14 May 1264, son of Sir Richard DeClare and Maud DeLacy; born 2 September 1243, Hampshire; died 7 December 1299, Monmouth Castle. Maud DeLacy, mother of Sir Gilbert DeClare, was the daughter of John DeLacy, Earl of Lincoln and a Magna Charta Surety in 1215. Her husband, Sir Richard DeClare, was the son of Sir Gilbert DeClare and Grandson of Richard DeClare, both Magna Charta Sureties. In addition, the wife of Sir Gilbert DeClare was Isabel Marshall, daughter of Sir William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke. Sir William Marshall was advisor to King John and was named in the preamble of Magna Charta.
      5. Margaret DeClare, born circa 1292; died 13 April 1342; married her second husband, 28 April 1317 at Windsor, Hugh DeAudley, Lord Audley, Eighth Earl of Gloucester, 16 March 1336/1337, Ambassador to France, 1341; son of Hugh DeAudley and Isoide, probably the daughter of Edmond DeMortimer of Wigmore; died 10 November 1347. Hugh DeAudley, husband of Margaret DeClare, was the grandson of James DeAudley and Ela Longespee. Ela Longespee, daughter of Sir William Longespee, was the granddaughter of William Longespee, Earl of Salisbury, who was names in the preamble of Magna Charta.
      6. Margaret DeAudley, only daughter and heir; died 7 September 1349; married before 6 July 1336, Sir Ralph DeStafford, Knight of the Garter, 23 April 1349, First Earl of Stafford; son of Edmund DeStafford and Margaret Basset; born 24 September 1301; died 31 August 1372 at Tumbridge Castle.
      7. Joan DeStafford; died before 1397; married John CherletonCherleton, age twenty-six on Easter 1360, Lord Cherleton and Lord of Powis; son of John Cherleton and Maud DeMortimer; died 13 July 1374.
     8. Sir Edward Cherleton, Knight of the Garter, Lord Cherleton and Lord of Powis; died 14 March 1420/1421; married 1399, his first wife, Eleanor (Holand) DeMortimer, daughter of Sir Thomas DeHoland and Alice Fitz Alan; died 1405.
     9. Joyce DeCherleton; died 22 September 1446; married shortly after 28 February 1421/1422, John DeTibeot; Baron Tibeot and Powis; died 27 January 1442/1443.
    10. Joan DeTibeot; married Sir Edward DeInglethorpe, Knight, flourished 1456.
    11. Isabel DeInglethorpe/DeGaldesthorpe; married 25 April 1456, Sir John DeNeville, Knight of the Garter, Marquis Montagu; son of Richard DeNeville and Alice DeMontagu; born circa 1431; died 20 May 1476.
    12. Lucy DeNeville; died Bagshot Manor, co. Surrey, 31 March 1534; married her second husband, Sir Anthony Browne, Knight; died 19 November 1506, will proven 1506; Lieutenant of Calais and Standard Bearer to King Henry VII.
    13. Sir Anthony Browne, Knight of the Garter in 1539; he died 1548; Sir Browne was Executor in the will of King Henry VIII; married his first wife, Alice Gage; daughter of Sir John Gage, Knight of the Garter, Constable of the Tower.
    14. Anthony Browne; Viscount Montagu, 1554; died 1592; married his first wife, Jane Radcliffe; daughter of John Radcliff, First Earl of Sussex.
    15. Anthony Browne married Mary Dormer, third daughter of Sir William Dormer, Knight of the Bath.
    16. Dorothy Browne married Edward Lee, Stantonbury, co. Bucks, England.
    17. Dorothy Lee married as his first wife, Sir John Temple, Knight and Baronet, of Stowe co. Bucks, England.
    18. Dorothy Temple buried at Parvenham, on 5 December 1668; she married at Odell, 4 January 1634, Johnb Alston of the Inner Temple; buried at Parvenham, 16 August 1687, age seventy-seven, son of Thomasc Alston of Gedding Hall, Polstead, co. Suffolk and Frances Bloomfield.
    19. Johna Alston, of Parvenham, died 1704; mentioned in the will of his father; married Anne Wallis; daughter of John Wallis, one of the founders of the Royal Society and son of Reverend John Wallis.
    20. John1 Alston, referred to as Colonel; baptized 5 December 1673, Felmersham, co. Bedford, England; died before 2 December 1759, Chowan County, North Carolina; emigrated to North Carolina in 1694, a Justice of the Peace on 24 October 1724, a Captain until 1725, a Major until 1729, afterwards a Colonel and Sheriff of Chowan County; married Mary Clark, daughter of John Clark. John Alston settled in Bertie County, North Carolina in April 1724. He was appointed commissioner of the peace on 3 November 1724, revenue collector for the King in 1725, and elected vestryman of St. Paul’s Parish, Chowan County in 1738 and served until 1747. His will was dated 20 February 1755. 
    21. Solomon2 Alston, born circa 1707, probably Bertie County, North Carolina, was of the County of Warren, North Carolina; married circa 1729, Ann/Nancy Hinton, the daughter of John1 and Mary (Hardy) Hinton of Chowan County, North Carolina. In his will, dated 4 September 1780 and probated in January 1785, Mr. Alston named his daughter Rachel Jones, wife of Edmond5 Jones.

    22. Rachel Alston; born 27 September 1747, Warren County, North Carolina; married circa 1770, Edmond5 Jones, son of Sugar4 or Shugan and Sarah (Franklin) Jones. Mr. Jones left a will dated 14 April 1834.

    23. James6 Jones; born circa 1772, Chatham County, North Carolina; married circa 1796, Rebecca Kirby, daughter of James and Elizabeth (Wright) Kirby. Mr. Jones made his will on 27 October 1832 and mentioned his daughter, Elizabeth (Jones) Deming. 24. Elizabeth Alston Jones married FISHER 6 A. DEMING. [3]
